My Ascent to K-Pop

My Ascent to K-Pop

As you can see from the title, I said "Ascent", instead of "Descent" as some would describe their hobbies or such. For me, when I started getting into K-Pop, I did see a general rise in my happiness. It most likely is due to me having experienced something new. The one that started it all is the girl group "ITZY".

My exposure to K-pop in general started with my little cousin when she asked me to buy a photo album for "Itzy". I bought it for her, and when it arrived, I was pleasantly entertained with what was included in it. Fast forward to some time, a recommended video popped up on YouTube, which I surprisingly watched till the end, and continue to watch other videos like it. That video was about Itzy's leader, Yeji.

Hwang Yeji

As I watched the video, I was mesmerized by Yeji's attitude and appeal. I learned more about her and her group through more videos, and as soon as I realized it, I was hooked. I even asked my cousin for a picture of her. I've been familiar with Korean culture mostly from watching K-dramas, but getting into K-pop was a refreshing new experience. I find myself singing along with their songs, and trying out their dance moves.

Safe to say, Yeji is my bias, or the one I like the most in the group. Nevertheless, everyone in her group is very charming and unique as well.

Shin Ryujin

As the designated "girl crush" of the group, Ryujn always seems cool and aloof, but in truth, she is fun and energetic. She always pokes fun with the other members and makes jokes with them.

Lee Chae-Ryoung

Chaeryeong is the group's main dancer, and it shows when she moves. She is elegant and flexible, with the best expressions as well. She also has a cute side of her, where she spaces out at random times, while the group is doing their own thing, which I can relate to.

Choi Jisu

Lia, as she is known in the group, is the main singer. Her voice really is like honey, just as her personality. She is always really cute, and is reliable when the group goes on world tours as she is proficient in speaking in English since she grew up in Canada.

Shin Yuna

Last, and certainly not the least, the "Maknae" (youngest in the group), Yuna. She is full of energy and is the visual of the group. Just in this picture alone, you can really see why she is called that.

I wish to continue on this path of mine with my new experience of K-pop, and discover more groups like Itzy. It really is never too late to get into something new and exciting in life. Comment below which K-Pop group you like best, and maybe your bias as well. Thanks!!
